[OOC: I want to write some things that aren't Delight, which is not going to happen at the update schedule of one-per-weekday that I've been maintaining. So I'm dropping back to three times a week. I'm going to try M-T-Th, for minimum overlap with Sythyry. :) ]

"Oh! What kind of adventure how many people do you need where is it how much does it pay will you h ire me?" I asked Purrzhon.

"It is the personal matter. I need the healer and maybe the two or three others to fight or support. In Remorshka Woods. Rrai, I do not decide yet the how much to pay. You are knowing the other adventurers here?"

I nodded vigorously.

"Your month's rent is the how much?"

"Thirty lozens ... "

Purrzhon padded outside the post office, tailtip twitching. I followed as he said, "You are finding the healer and others. The good warriors, since you are not the good warrior. Then I hire you all, vrai, and pay you each the thirty lozens in advance. Then the ten lozens each day and the standard rates for any fighting. Do we have the deal?"

I held out my hand. "Deal!"

Purrzhon ignored it. "Good. I meet you and the others here at two hours after noon. We leave today."

A Healer You Can Trust

I went to the healer's guild first. Guild healers mostly (a) have regular jobs that pay pretty well and (b) don't want to do dangerous insane things like adventure. Still their goddess and guild founder Kvarse approves of heroism and bravery which is kinda sorta like adventuring and the Guild keeps a list of healers that might be willing to join one.

When I got there, Trust was in the front room looking at their book of job listings. "Hallo Trust what are you doing here oh no you didn't get fired too did you?"

"Dee! &hearts" He jumped up and gave me a big tongue-lolling smile. "No, I didn't get fired." His tail stopped wagging despite his words. "It's just ... not quite what I was hoping for."

"Oh no you didn't change your mind about being a healer did you?"

Trust shook his head. "No! I still want to be a healer! &hearts Just maybe not the personal healer for a noble's household. Or at least not at Chancellor --'s household."

"Ohhhh. Have you ever considered adventuring, Trust?"

And that's pretty much how I got us a healer. Trust needed some persuading but really nothing beats the on-the-job training that you get by adventuring and he wanted a job where he felt needed and not like a somebody's status symbol. "Believe me Trust we will need you!" I promised.

... Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if that was actually reassuring or off-putting. But he did agree!

Maybe you should join the healer's guild and be a personal healer for a noble's household? It sounds like a job where you don't have to work much, and with "Here"'s help you could suddenly appear in your office whenever they needed you to be available to be statusy.

...Cause it's "Work". People only pay for skills that are valuable to them! But seriously, that knowing folk skill IS valuable, you just have to leverage it!

You can make lozens helping people solve problems though, and connecting people, like connecting someone with a product or idea with a market to pay for that sort of thing, or matching buyers for things and sellers for things. Consider the sorts of things you could be a broker for, using your skill of knowing people, helping people find the right people... you could be a broker for adventurers, merchants, sorcerers, businessmen, etc. etc.! All because you are good at knowing people and connecting people and finding someone who wants or has something!

Well... did the word "broker" translate properly? What is it that people who do that word as their main employment DO?

I'm afraid my dear coz has not quite grasped that this is, in point of fact, exactly what she has just been paid to do. I must applaud your attempts to convince her of this truth, however. A laudable effort, my good sapient!

Do you think you can work on this from your angle? Help her realize that she DOES have a valuable skill, and maybe how to make a useful business and career out of it?

Hope he's not hiring you to do anything bad.

"This is the sleeth's house. Ignore the obvious rassimel trappings and rassimel children playing in the yard. They are the intruders. You are slaying them all and tossing them off the side of the branch."
