My Dearest Delight-in-Flight:

I have been waiting with bated breath to reach the end of your adventure. I quite agree with your Gormorror's assessment of your bravery and selflessness! Not only in swapping places with him whilsy he was in the clutches of that abominable elemental, but in teleporting fearlessly into the teeth (not to mention swords and spears!) of an ambush. I am most impressed, my dear coz.

And most relieved to find you are back safe in civilisation once more, and largely recovered from your death-defying and -enduring exertions. I hope that selling recovered possessions proves less dangerous, although the tenor of your final sentence suggests it is not untroubled. Do tell us what difficulties your good Mirhandrax encountered that necessitated later bail.

I must apologize for my shameful silence these last several days. I assure you that I have not been neglecting your scroll -- indeed, I have taken to carting it about with me and checking multiple times daily to see what news you have. Hearing of your adventures makes me feel almost as if I am with you myself, save that I need wield no club nor risk any injury to accompany you thusly. I cannot claim that terrible hazards nor serious injuries have prevented my tentacle from setting pen to parchment. My own life has been devoid of such excitement, but not -- alas! -- devoid of duty or responsibility. Or work at all hours, from the littlest to the largest, on the docks.

It's the night hours that unsettle me most. I'll work from dawn to dusk without complaint, but night was made for rest and relaxation. When Flokin does not care to work, neither do I. Beyond that, the skullduggery of these midnight hours makes my epidermis quiver. Oh, no doubt some of these merchant captains who berth three hours before dawn and insist on unloading their cargo on the instant merely regard their time as more valuable than the doubled or tripled fees of nighttime dockside services. But when some airship docks at noon and is berthed three days before it becomes an urgent matter at five hours past sunout to have the cargo moved? A prime can't help but wonder, and members of my profession and species are Not Encouraged to wonder. In truth, I too sometimes long for a change of career. I do not believe adventuring is the life for me, however!

In between my ill-advised speculations as to the true nature of the work my tentacles are being roused to do at dark and unholy hours, I have squeezed in some time to practice with Don't Go in It's a Tarp! We're working on a catchy new tune; Song-of-Songs (née River-Aria) came up with the melody line and is hammering out the lyrics for it. And we've been practicing old favorites, of course. Orziman has perfected the most charming accompaniment for "When You Don't Come to the Lake". On good nights, I almost feel as if we might be adequately prepared for our performance at Pinsitter's on the eighteenth. (On bad nights, I feel as if I cannot keep my tentacles wrapped about my drumsticks, much less maintain rhythm, but let us overlook that for now.)

I feel this is quite a short missive after the length and depth with which you've written of late, but I must be off to work. I hope to have chance to set quill to parchment again soon, dear coz. Do keep us posted!

Your devoted if delinquent cousin,
Boomstarter Sevendrums

Yay you are still seeing what I write I was starting to wonder if maybe you'd lost your scroll or something. But it's fine! You usually only wrote once a week before I made the scroll so it's not like I expect you to write three times a day just because I am. You know how I am!

Shady characters always want to work at night, even if anyone who has any reason to care is going to have sleeth eyes anyway.

It's because the truly officious officials are typically elsewhere at that time, or even engaged in such trade themselves and trying to hide from the general citizenry.
