A Visiting Outcast
While I was convalescing the others did a perimeter sweep to make sure we'd got everyone, which we hadn't actually: some of the bandits who had been losing at tag with Windchime and Chain Lightning had managed to get back into the hideout. Not enough of them to cause any real trouble, though. Then the others took a bunch of other boring precautions that Mirhandrax insisted on.
After all the boring precautions, they started fishing the loot out of the strongroom using the long ropes we'd tied to it while we were still down there. I gather this was exciting too because the trap got set off a couple more times while they were doing it but no one got hurt and they eventually managed to get pretty much everything.
They also dropped the bandits we'd captured (apart from Faefen's dad, Branner) off the edge of the world-branch just like we had the first group.
Outcast came to check on me although I don't know why he did because it's not like I even know him. "How is she? Is she able to talk yet?" he asked Trust.
"She's doing well, all things considered ♥, and she can talk -- " Trust gave me a stern look "-- as long as she remembers to talk like a Khtsoyis. ♥"
Outcast was nonplussed. "What, in cant?"
I giggled, which made my ribcage hurt. "He means slowly. With lots of breathing. From my belly, not chest."
"Oh! How are you doing? Your friends recovered most of the stolen goods from the bandits' hoard. They're just making a final sweep for anything they've missed, then we're to go to Ulmarn to get you healed the rest of the way." Outcast pulled the cushioned stool from Sharone's vanity to the bedside and perched on it.
"'We'? I thought you were ... " I inhaled as Trust eyed me. "Going to jump off the world-branch. After your nonprime lover."
He gave me a sad smile. "I was going to, but your Gormorror friend talked me out of it."
"Why'd he do that?"
"He explained that between various things -- air elemental interference, unpredictable wind currents, the drag based on the size and shape of the falling object, Hreshh Huu's mood, et cetera -- there was no reason to think I would end up within a thousand miles of Elisia even if I dropped from the same place and fell just as far." Outcast sighed. "I don't know what I'm going to do next."
"Forget about her? And try to have ... a normal life again?" I suggested optimistically.
Outcast shook his head. "I don't think that's happening." He looked down at his hands resting against his knees. "I need to know ... what happened to her, at least." He squeezed his eyes shut. "Those murderers you dumped with her, I don't know that they'll trust her. Not when they don't have me right there to hold over her. Once they're free, I'm afraid they'll ... " He shook himself, looking to me again. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to talk about my problems. I just came to let you know how things are going."
"All right," I said because I didn't want to hear about his problems ewwww. And I didn't really feel guilty about exiling his mewellicapfriend. It's not like we KNEW and she WAS a mewellicap so she probably deserved it for something. He'd be better off without her.
Outcast stood. He looked much healthier than when we'd rescued him from the bandits' holding cells. That's partly because Trust had healed him before we went into battle and he'd had a bath since, but there was something else there too. Like his spirit hadn't all fit in the holding cell and he'd been reunited with the missing parts of it after getting free. "And I wanted to thank you," he said. I blinked at him because I was surprised he'd figured out ALREADY that he was better off when he'd just been moping. But then he went on: "For putting an end to these outlaws. I know I've complained about ... what happened to Elisia. But that wasn't your fault. Not the fault of any of you." He looked to Trust as well. The Cani wagged his tail and perked his ears. "I don't want you to think I blame you. Those people -- those monsters, and the mewellicaps were far from the worst of them -- needed to be stopped, and I am grateful that you were brave and strong enough to do what Elisia and I could not." He dropped his eyes, and said almost inaudibly, "I just wish it had been me and not her who'd paid the price." Louder, Outcast finished, "Thank you. Ulmarn Mene is in your debt for this, whether they realize it or not."
Trust's tail thumped a drumbeat against the side of his chair. "Thank you. ♥"
"Umm ... you're welcome," I told Outcast.
"I'll let you rest now." The other Orren bowed to us and departed.
"He's not riding in the Winged Charger with us is he?"
Trust shot me a glare. "Breathe. Carefully." While I breathed for him, he said, "I think Purrzhon said he could come. Why? ♥"
"Because he's ... a nonprime lover," I whined. "He gives me the creeps."
Trust's ears and tail wilted and he nodded. "I keep forgetting. <\3"
"How can you forget?" I asked. "It's practically all he talks about."
Trust gave a helpless shrug. "He seems nice otherwise."
I sighed and let the subject drop.

Is he going back with you to Veshrame?
As for Elisia, if he wouldn't have landed within 1000 miles of her, then maybe she won't land within 1000 miles of the other bandits. Unless they were all tied to the *same* log.

They weren't all tied to the same log I think there were three logs? I wasn't paying that much attention to who got tied to which though.
