This Morning's Nightmare

While Nightbloom was on watch at night for the bandits to come out of their snag, Kijji snuck up on her and ate her brain. Then Kijji sent a signal to the bandits that we were there, and Mewellicaps and Cani and Khtsoyis, including Grampsis, came boiling out of the snag and descended upon the Winged Charger while everyone was sleeping and started slaughtering all of the crew and us adventurers while we slept. As Grampsis clubbed me to death, he said "Delight! It is wonderful ... " *whack* "to see you once more ... " *thud* "after so long an absence." *crack* "I only wish the circumstances ... " *thwack* "were more congenial."

"It's good to see you too Grampsis," I said, just before I died.

I miss Grampsis.

After I died in the dream my bound Heal the Awful Wound brought me back all soaked in blood and then I woke up to find Purrzhon licking my face. "It is the shimmery purple Orren's turn on watch."

Of course no mentavores had possessed anyone and the bandits hadn't left yet and I almost wish they had because then it would be more interesting.

Today's Boredom

Nothing’s happened yet so I don’t have anything to write about except the latest nightmare but I thought I should write something anyway so Boomsy won’t worry. Hi Boomsy! I’m booooored!

We’ve been taking turns watching, in pairs so even if a mentavore did eat one of us while she was awake which makes no sense since they only eat sleeping people, the mentavore still couldn't take the rest of us by surprise. The crew of the airship has been taking watches too. Purrzhon’s thinking about sending the airship back because the ship is expensive and we don’t exactly need it if all we’re going to do is sit here waiting for the bandits to DO SOMETHING ALREADY WHAT KIND OF BANDITS ARE YOU? Once we're done with the bandits, it'd be nice to have it for for returning to Vheshrame but Purrzhon's the one paying for the airship and he's not going back to Vheshrame anyway. Purzzhon lives near here! And the rest of us could take a merchant flight or a coach home. Except Chain Lightning and Windchime who'll just fly. Mirhandrax pointed out that we might need the ship for a quick escape though. Purrzhon said that the plan is to take out the bandits so that they can't get revenge on him later because the whole point is not to have to defend his home again from these crooks. Mirhandrax said he knows that but we may need the airship for a quick escape just the same.

So the Winged Charger is still here.

And nothing is still happening. When I'm not on watch (and all right yes sometimes when I am on watch seven staring gods I HATE watch shifts) I’ve mostly been reading through weird things on my scroll from other worlds. Other worlds are very very strange. Oh, and playing the games on my scroll that [livejournal.com profile] terrycloth showed me. Once I figured out how to play them. They're sort of hypnotic. And also very strange.

[livejournal.com profile] gavinfox was asking about cities where they'd decriminalized doorwaying which is one of those absolutely insane things that no Ketherian city would be stupid enough to try. But some cities on distant branches have attempted it because they are raving morons bold! and innovative! and ruined by their own foolish pride. So I'll write about one of them since nothing interesting is happening to me.

What's the range on a Wandering Eye spell? Maybe someone could scry a look inside. I'm sure there are defenses against scrying, but someone could at least try.

Or maybe something like Image Spirits that doesn't have a range, just a duration?

Just don't try to Veil an Image Spirit -- Destroc Illusidor doesn't work like you'd hope on a creature with a body made out of Illusidor.

Yeah, they sound like a lot of fun.

Oh, thanks, that sounds interesting! In particular, do you have a story where they tried to think it through and be careful about how they did it? Like only for minor nondangerous nonprimes like Taptet, they had to have a pass, they had to pay a fee which includes an armed escort for them, they could only stay a certain amount of time to do a specific thing, etc. etc.

Well I would DEFINITELY like to hear that story!

Good thing you didn't take too much waking up or Purrzhon might have taken more liberties! You'd better keep an eye on him. He could have woken you up with vigorous shaking instead. };)

You could always use the Winged Charger as bait... Have it fly by pretending to be full of treasure and rich tourists and watch the bandits fly out, then it puts on full sail and leads them away while you invade their lair, then you can take the bandits by surprise when they return.

I'm not sure if the crew would like that. At least the Ulgrane could zip in behind the bandits, though, and catch them by surprise!

Hmm. I have a technique which helps restore the spirit after damage, at the same time clearing away dangerous spirits, which might at least reduce the "being hurt while dreaming" problem, not to mention reduce the trauma by allowing you to process it better. Unfortunately, Ruloc Healoc Spiridor is not exactly a common World Tree spell type, and the technique I use requires a particular kind of energy which is common enough but not always accessible.
