2 Chirreb 4385: Hire Him!
Sep. 2nd, 2010 08:03 amI waited until I'd finished Chain Lightning's design. I didn't just touch up the old design because BORING. He really wanted to keep the lightning motif though. So I did a whole new design with a base of light purple at the forewing fading to deep indigo at the back, and instead of stylized lightning bolts, I did a crackling forking web of lightning picking out all the feathers and made actual sparks run down the lightning paths. I encircled his neck with a design of thick menirizon (or however that's spelled I always forget it's a purple metal) chains and put a little metallic shine on the links to make them pop. All the ulgrane were mesmerized while I worked and when I finished everyone stared at him as he preened and tried to get a good look at himself.
"I gotta talk to Purrzhon for a moment I'll be right back to do Summer Sky think about what you want all right?"
"I want that!" Summer Sky said, pointing at Chain Lightning.
"You cannot have it! Get your own look," Chain Lightning told him.
I dragged Purrzhon down into the ship while they bickered. "Puzzhy we should hire the Ulgrane I think."
"Rrreally?" Purrzhon eyed me. "I think the shimmery purple Orren has gotten a little crazier."
"No really there are more bandits than we thought and we could use the help and Ulgrane are pretty tough even if they're not pirates. Also Chain Lightning is a REALLY good Airador mage he can Call the Lightning. And I bet there's combat uses for some of his other pattern spells like that Shelter."
The Sleeth started to answer and then stopped. He studied me for a moment with his eyes slitted. "You are sure this Ulgrane is not the pirate."
"Noooo he's a rainmaker he does stuff with Aquador and Airador mostly. He did work once for my grandparents Purrzhy."
"But he has the very expensive and difficult Airador combat spell."
"Yes? It went with his name."
"He pays the thousands of lozens for the combat spell and he is not the pirate or the raider or the adventurer or the guard? He does this for the matching of the name?"
I waved my hands around. "It's an Ulgrane thing. They do stuff like that just to show off. Showing off is very important to boy Ulgrane why do you think they all want their feathers styled? Besides it's not like he'd never ever have to fight anything he does live in the wilds and the Ulgrane don't have city walls at their cloudnest."
Purrzhon snorted and twisted his head around to chew thoughtfully on his hindleg.
I pressed my point. "And the Ulgrane already wanted to get the Mewellicaps for trespassing it's perfect."
Purrzhon growled a bit. "I am not sure I am wanting to hire the monsters for the fighting of Primes. It is not the good habit."
"Oh." That was a pretty good point. "But we could reallly use the help though couldn't we?"
Purrzhon turned in a circle and started back up the ladder to the hatch. "You are feather styling your monster friends now. I am thinking about it."

Date: 2010-09-06 06:35 am (UTC)Heck, I think doorwaying laws totally do not need to be as restrictive as they are. There needs to be a system for certain of the nicer nonprimes to legally obtain entry to a city (provided they have a day pass, can pay for someone to chaperone/ escort them, and are in for a limited amount of time on specific business for a specific task).
Do you know of any city that has a system like that?
