2 Chirreb 4385: Introductions

The Winged Charger jinked around a bit in the air as we approached but the flock of ulgrane didn't have any trouble flying up to it anyway. Trust, Mirhandrax, Purrzhon and Nightbloom were all still waiting for us on the ship's back. They'd taken the padding we'd been using during practice off their weapons. They weren't quite holding their weapons ready and looking like they were about to attack but Mirhandrax had his greataxe's head resting against the ship while his hands were folded over the top of the hilt and Nightbloom had one hand on the hilt of her sword and another two holding her staff upright like a walking stick.

"Would it make them feel better if we fought them for a bit first?" Chain Lightning asked me as we flew up. "Don't they know we have a treaty with Vheshrame? I guess we're not in your Mene at the moment, but still. We've had a treaty with Vheshrame for generations."

"I know I told them!"

Chain Lightning laughed and conferred with the others in the flock for a moment. Then he deposited me on the deck and rolled onto his back in a posture of submission. "O great Prime adventurers! We weak and hapless ulgrane have proven no match for the devastating power of your Orren wizard! We submit before her might and surrender our weapons!" He and several of the others took utility knives out of their harnesses and laid them hilt-first on the deck with ritual and feigned solemnity. The three girl ulgrane weren't quite laughing but they looked like they wanted to. A couple of the boys looked pretty grumpy and hung back without participating. "We ask only that she spare our lives! And, also, paint our wings." He waggled his pinions meaningfully. I nipped his truehand. "Ow! No, spare us your wrath, wizard of devastation! We submit!" I bit him again and he started to laugh, along with the rest of the flock. Even the two grumpy ones.

Trust wagged his tail and smiled nervously at them. Mirhandrax said, "So you know these ulgrane?"

"Uh huh!" I introduced everybody.

Purrzhon twitched his whiskers. "I am remembering that the shimmery purple Orren also tells the city guard she knows the Sleeth. Whom she met a third of an hour earlier."

" ... all right yes I haven't known most of them very long but Chain Lightning and Intoxicating Sky I know from way back I even did their feather patterns before see?" I gestured with a paw. Chain Lightning was still lying on his back with his stomach in the air and his wings spread. He waggled his pinions again. "They're not sky raiders. They're not even adventurers Chain Lightning is a rainmaker and Intoxicating Sky is a brewer."

"We're out practicing for a major race that's coming up in a few months, but that's just for fun," Chain Lightning explained.

"You are. A brewer?" Nightbloom asked Intoxicating Sky.

Intoxicating Sky winked at her. "Ulgrane drink too."

"Anyway they want their feathers done and I can't do the whole flock obviously." Technically I could -- there were only eight of them in all and I have a lot of cley but it'd take all day. "But I figured I'd do a few and we could ask them about the bandit's snag their territory's pretty big they might know something."

Mirhandrax looked at Purrzhon. Purrzhon lay down in the smooth-carved hollow of the Charger's spine and shrugged. "Your cley."

See? I told you that while adventuring, you would get into appropriate trouble! What with the needing the Ulgrane's help to get to the ship, and the social trouble with all the primes, and all of that! =D

Just try and make it so that over time, they don't view you as a 'loose cannon'. I'm not sure how that will translate, but a definition that applies is, "An unpredictable, reckless person who is liable to endanger to the group they belong to, if not kept in check."

Noooo I'm not in any trouble with the other Primes they're just a little worried about the Ulgrane but not about meeee. It'll be fine!

Just be careful! And if you aren't actually IN a wild rush, try to be thoughtful and a little bit more prudent with what you are doing and how it will be viewed?

I do think about what I'm doing that's why I knew we wouldn't have trouble with the Ulgrane!

Note I also mentioned 'how it would be viewed', as in, how it would be viewed by the PRIMES, notably with the ship jinking and the bared weapons and the primes trying to keep you from going and such?

So the rainmaker summons clouds to hide in while they stalk the airships, and the brewer cooks up sinister potions to incapacitate the crew?

Noooo of course not they're not raiders and if they were Chain Lightning would probably use lightning bolts.

I do wonder about Lightning upgrading his name to Chain Lightning. };)
